As part of Broadway Alaska’s commitment to education and outreach, Alaska Center for the Performing Arts has developed a community outreach element within our Broadway Alaska program. The outreach arm is called BroadwayBoundAK and will bring educational and outreach opportunities to communities across the state.

The HAMILTON Creative Competition is closed. Thank you for those that participated. We can’t wait to announce who will be joining us when HAMILTON takes the stage at the Performing Arts Center! Check back on July 20^th for the competition results!

For HAMILTON specifically, BroadwayBoundAK partnered with Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History (GL Institute) and HAMILTON to create an Alaska specific, statewide competition for middle and high school students (rising grades 7-12) to submit a HAMILTON-inspired 2-minute video showcasing their original creative work. The work must be a newly created rap, piece of music, spoken word, scene, poem, short story or theatrical performance etc. inspired by HAMILTON. BroadwayBoundAK will accept submissions from around the state and will regionalize winners (12 total winning submissions, plus one chaperone per student). There will be one middle school and one high school winner per contest area: Far North, Interior, Southwest, Southcentral and Southeast. Winners will travel to Anchorage for the Saturday, September 9, 2023 matinee performance of HAMILTON. All winners from outside of Anchorage and greater Southcentral will receive hotel accommodation along with airfare. We will work with HAMILTON to coordinate additional show related opportunities to be announced.

BroadwayBoundAK is partnering with GL Institute to compile, sort and judge submissions. Submissions will be evaluated on originality, relevance, creativity, quality and effort.

BroadwayBoundAK HAMILTON Competition and Timeline:

May 16, 2023 - Application form opens;
June 27, 2023 (extended) - Deadline for submissions;
July 23, 2024 - All winners notified;
August 10, 2023 - Required paperwork for winners due;
September 8, 2023 – Winners travel to Anchorage for the performance;
September 9, 2023 – Winners view the matinee performance of HAMILTON and participate in all related activities.
