What is a Resident Company?

You may hear us using the phrase “resident company” but what does it actually mean?

A resident company is an arts organization whose home theater is not their own, therefore they are residents of the theater. Although the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. (ACPA) serves as both a presenting organization and manager/operator of the municipal owned facility, most performances at the ACPA are presented by one of our eight resident companies: Anchorage Concerts, Anchorage Symphony Orchestra, Alaska Dance Theater, Anchorage Concert Chorus, Alaska Youth Orchestras, Alaska Junior Theater, Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy, and Anchorage Opera.

Our Resident Companies

Anchorage Concert Association

Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy

Anchorage Symphony Orchestra

Alaska Junior Theater

Anchorage Opera

Anchorage Concert Chorus

Alaska Dance Theatre

Alaska Youth Orchestra

Each resident company puts on a regular season of shows within our building, and many of them also do community shows across Anchorage. They are the theatrical lifeblood of our building and our community. Without them Anchorage would be bereft of high-quality artistic performances, and our building would be quiet.

For the next 8 weeks we will be highlighting our resident companies and their upcoming seasons.
